A Legacy Rooted in Kona Coffee.

HCFCU is proud to be the only credit union in the United States founded by farmers cultivating Kona coffee, a crop grown nowhere else in the world. Those roots continue to guide how we serve our members and communities today.

A history of dedicated service.

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union was founded in 1936 during the Great Depression by ten Kona coffee farmers who were turned away by traditional banks. They came together to create their own financial cooperative built on trust, shared responsibility, and people helping people.

What began as a one-room operation quickly grew beyond farmers to include others in the local community. As Hawaii Island grew, so did we, always focused on serving our members with care and integrity.

In 1991, after acquiring Kohala Federal Credit Union, we became Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union and expanded membership to serve all of Hawaii Island. While we have grown significantly since those early days, our purpose remains the same: to support our members and strengthen our community.

We are proud to be the only credit union in the United States founded by farmers cultivating Kona coffee, a crop grown nowhere else in the world. Our roots in agriculture reflect the resilience, cooperation, and commitment that continue to guide us today.
