Support Those Who Save Lives

Market Day is more than a celebration. It's an opportunity to make a real difference in our community.

Each year, Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union celebrates International Credit Union Day and the credit union philosophy of People Helping People through Market Day. This special event brings our community together to support local vendors while raising critical funds for our Triennial Social Responsibility Partner, the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation.

For more than 28 years, the Foundation has been dedicated to one mission: saving lives. Through private fundraising efforts, they have provided the Hawaii Island Fire Department with lifesaving equipment, specialized rescue tools, and advanced training that may not otherwise be available through public funding alone.

Thanks to community support, the Foundation has raised more than $40 million to equip first responders with resources such as fire trucks, rescue boats, Jaws of Life equipment, water rescue gear, communication systems, AEDs, and emergency medical transport helicopters. These tools help firefighters and emergency personnel respond quickly when every second counts.

One of the Foundation's most significant contributions is the Airbus H125 helicopter, Ka ʻIo, named after the Hawaiian hawk. The helicopter provides critical emergency medical transport and rescue capabilities across Hawaii Island, helping first responders reach patients in remote locations and deliver lifesaving care when access by ground is difficult or impossible.

When you participate in Market Day, you're doing more than shopping or enjoying local food. You're helping provide the equipment, training, and resources our firefighters and first responders rely on to protect our families, friends, and neighbors.

Beginning in September, visit any of our branches to take part in Market Day fundraising activities. Every dollar raised through Market Day is donated to the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation and directly benefits the Hawaii Island Fire Department.

Together, we can help ensure our local heroes have the tools they need to keep Hawaii Island safe.
