For the second year in a row Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) exceeded their fundraising goals by over $4,000 – this resulted in a $10,135 donation to the 2017 Relay for Life of Kona, a non-profit fundraising initiative of the American Cancer Society. The funds were raised through in-branch donations from members and staff as well as other fundraising strategies such as selling Punalu`u Sweet Bread, Relay for Life Ribbons, Chocolate Bar Sales and other activities. Since 2016 HCFCU has been able to raise more than $20,000 for the Relay for Life initiatives on Hawaii Island.

The main event, which took place on Saturday, July 8 at the Old Kona Airport Park, featured a six-hour fundraising relay with hundreds of people walking to celebrate cancer survivors, remembering those who lost their struggle with the disease and supporting those still fighting cancer every day.
According to the Relay for Life of Kona website, 30 local teams helped raise more than $71,000 so far this year. Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union is also participating in the Relay for Life of North Hawaii which will take place on Saturday, August 19.
