HCFCU Announces New Interim CEO & President
The Board of Directors of Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) has named Mr. Thomas Griffiths as Interim CEO and President effective January 2, 2014. Current CEO and President, James Takamine, has announced his departure from HCFCU, effective January 1, 2014.

Remembering Harold Manago
H. Manago, a longtime Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union pioneer and former Board member, passed away July 6, 2013 at age 94. Manago started as a volunteer Supervisory Committee member at Hawaii Community FCU in 1944 and later served as a member of the Credit Committee for 26 years. He served as a member of the board of directors from 1975-1985. During his tenure on the board, the Credit Union established its leadership among other Hawaii Island credit unions by converting to an online computer system, merging with the Kohala Federal Credit Union, and offering Visa credit cards.

Remembering John Iwane
John Y. Iwane, a longtime Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union pioneer and former Board Chair, passed away June 12, 2013 at age 96.
Iwane started as a volunteer board member at Hawaii Community FCU in 1960 and later served as Chairman of the Board for 21 years. He also served as the Vice-Chair of the Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Credit Union League. He received the Hawaii Credit Union League’s prestigious Volunteer of the Year award in 2006 for his leadership, personal development in credit union education and training, and participation in credit union and community activities. In 2007, Iwane received the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce’s Pualu Award for Lifetime Service, honoring his lifelong commitment to the community exemplified by his personal and business achievements. Iwane’s community service spanned over 50 years with the Lions Club serving in a variety of leadership roles and with the Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver Award , the highest award a volunteer can receive from the Boy Scouts. He also served as a volunteer with the USDA Soil Conservation Service and as the Chairman of the Kailua Village Commission.

Student Credit Unions seek Board Members
The Student Credit Unions (SCUs) at Kealakehe and Konawaena High School are accepting applications to fill volunteer Board of Director positions for the 2013-2014 school year. The Student Credit Union operates on-campus branches where students can conduct financial transactions such as opening an account and making deposits and withdrawals. The SCU is run by a volunteer board of directors made up of students. The board attends monthly meetings held on campus to foster the growth of their SCU and to promote financial literary.

Quirit Promoted to Kealakekua Branch Manager
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the promotion of Kim Quirit as the Kealakekua Branch Manager. She will be responsible for the administration and operation, loans, personnel functions, and community and public relations of the branch.
Quirit started her career at the credit union in 1988 as a Teller. She supplemented her experience by taking specialized credit union courses which earned her certificates in Member Services, Credit Union Accounting, Consumer Lending and Service Excellence. She earned several promotions during her 25 year career with the Credit Union - Member Service Specialist, Mortgage Loan Processor, and Visa Coordinator. Quirit was promoted to a Call Center Officer to head the newly created Call Center at the Kaloko facility when it first opened in 2005. It was the first 24/7 call center on the island at the time. In 2006, she was honored as the Employee of the Year.

Remembering former President and General Manager Mitsugi Inaba
Mitsugi Inaba, Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union’s first President and General Manager, passed away March 27, 2013 at age 89. Inaba started with the Credit Union in 1947 as a Field Representative and later became its first President and General Manager. He also served on the boards of the Hawaii Credit Union League and the Credit Union Executives Society. Following his retirement in 1987, he served as a member of the Hawaii Community FCU Board of Directors from 1988-2000.
