POSITION TITLE: New Accounts Specialist
LOCATION: Kaloko Branch
REPORT TO: Operations Officer

Serves as a liaison between members and the credit union.  Provides account information by phone or in person, as well as information on the full range of credit union products and services.  Opens accounts for members, resolves issues, and professionally handle members’ needs.  Provides a variety of transactional services to members and cross-sells the services and programs of the Credit Union.
  • Greets and welcomes members and visitors to the credit union in a professional manner.  Performs department’s Five Magical Steps and provides prompt, efficient and accurate service in the processing of transactions. 
  • Signs up new members and explaining the share accounts, loan accounts, insurance coverage and other related financial services of the credit union to the members.
  • Provides, in person or by telephone, routine information covering credit union services or policies, including, but not limited to: what a credit union is, eligibility for membership, how to apply for membership, types of accounts available, insurance coverage of shares, how dividends on shares are computed, how to start, stop or change a payroll deduction/direct deposit and preauthorized share to loan transfer, the location of the credit union offices, office hours, CALL 24 and CU Anywhere home baking services
  • Operates computer terminals to obtain or input information.
  • Processes new checking accounts and re­ceives requests for check orders.
  • Microfilms checks.
  • Handles cash items for members as requested. 
  • Posts individual CDI payments to members’ accounts and mails all receipts to members with CDI stamp.
  • Files a claim for members for CDI.
  • Processes share certificates accounts including opening, closing and renewals.
  • Issues embossed ATM and debit cards.
  • Handles TT&L payments.
  • Handles paperwork pertaining to electronic disputes and forgery claims for checking and VISA credit cards and forwarding the paperwork to respective departments for processing.
  • Completes the required Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training and implements and complies with the BSA policy and procedures.
Administrative and Maintenance Functions:
  • When necessary, is capable of performing duties and responsibilities of a Teller Clerk.
  • Ensures safeguarding of member information by following the Credit Union’s Privacy Act.
  • Responsible for pulling out account-closed signature cards from active file; records date and amount and files in the inactive file.
  • Promotes Credit Union products and services.
  • Pulls credit reports cross-selling of loans.
  • Handles the opening, maintenance and closing of safe deposit boxes.
  • Maintains Power of Attorney documents includes scanning and filing.
  • May be called upon to appear in court for subpoenas.
  • As a member of the staff, answers incoming phone calls, assists members as the need arises, and performs work on projects as needed.
  • Follows identification and document retention policies as required by the Credit Union TAG Manual.
  • Assists other co-workers when needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Is able to operate 10 key by touch and type 30-40 wpm accurately.
  • Occasional reaching, climbing a ladder to reach upper shelving. 
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person or over the phone and/or in writing.
  • Occasional mobility around the office, surfaces of primarily carpet.
  • Occasional business traveling involved, including land and air travel.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff.
  • May be required to use his/her personal car to perform Credit Union business.
  • May be required to work at different branch.
  • May be required to work beyond the normal business hours, including weekends.
  • May be required to attend seminars or classes to increase job skills.
  • Must be bondable and have a clear credit rating.
  • High school graduate / GED equivalent with one (1) year of experience in a financial institution or related work experience; or
  • Knowledge of computer system (IBM or IBM compatible), word processing and spreadsheet preferred.
  • Work is primarily inside an air-conditioned, well-lighted office setting, and high humidity.
  • Working alone and with others.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Frequently public contact.
  • Potential exposure to the threat of violence at any time.
