POSITION TITLE: Loan Adjustment Officer
LOCATION: Kaloko Administrative Offices
REPORT TO: Assistant Vice President, Lending Manager

Responsible for planning directing, organizing and overall control of the Credit Union’s Loan Adjustment Department, in accordance with objectives, procedures and policies established by management and the Board of Directors. Oversees the safekeeping, maintenance and disposal of repossessions and foreclosures. Supervises the Loan Adjustment Department staff and reports to the Assitant Vice President - Loan Manager.
Administrative and Collection Functions:  
  • Is responsible for directing the Credit Union’s daily delinquent loan collection activities
  • Is responsible for the timely and accurate documentation of all actions taken, both verbal and non-verbal, to support his/her collection activities and recommendations
  • Is responsible for documenting the detailed chronological history and supporting analysis for all delinquent loan reports
  • As required, reviews and evaluates the collection procedures used by the Credit Union; makes recommendations to the Vice President of Credit Policy & Loan Administration for transmittal to management regarding liquidation of collateral, charge-off loan balances and associated expenses as well as other administrative requirements as directed
  • Maintains an effective collection follow-up program on those accounts that are in litigation, delinquent, potentially delinquent, or charged-off reserve, and keeps an accurate record of all charged-off loans and recoveries
  • Serves in the capacity of a Credit Union representative in dealing with small claims court, auto repossessions, collection agencies, and bankruptcy court; as required to maintain an effective collection program
  • Is responsible for the proper repossession and upkeep of collateral and its proper disposition while keeping the best interest of member and the Credit Union in mind
  • Facilitates and/or authorizes escrow transactions, listings, and sales contracts as directed
  • Is responsible for setting department staff goals and holding staff meetings as necessary to maintain afavorable delinquency and loss ratios
  • Attends Manager Meetings and Board of Directors meetings as directed
  • Participates in the Credit Union’s Committee meetings, as directed, serving as the subject matter expert for the Loan Adjustment Department
  • Is responsible for opening, closing and securing Loan Center as needed
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as related to the Loan Adjustment Department
  • Identifies potentially uncollectible loans, and recommends the appropriate loan loss reserve
  • Ensures the efficient operation of all systems related to delinquent loans collection

Personnel  Functions:
  • Attends the Delinquent Loans Committee meetings as directed
  • Supervises loan adjustment department staff in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities
  • Completes the required Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training and implements and complies with the BSA policy and procedures. Ensures adherence to the BSA policy by all department personnel
  • Interviews and makes recommendations to the Vice President of Credit Policy & Loan Administration for the authorized positions of the Loan Adjustment Department
  • Is responsible for at least semi-annual performance appraisals of the Loan Adjustment Department staff he or she supervises
  • Submits recommendations of salary adjustment, incentive bonuses, position changes, disciplinary actions, and dismissals for approvals
  • Coordinates work schedules and vacation schedules for Loan Adjustment Department personnel
  • Coordinates work load and work flow of the Loan Adjustment Department personnel; makes job assignments or reassignments as required; sets performance standards which will ensure completion of work in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provides guidance and training to Loan Adjustment Department personnel as required
  • As a member of the staff, answers incoming phone calls; assists members and coworkers as needs arise; and performs work on projects as needed
  • Trains employees in area of expertise as requested
  • Actively seeks opportunities to cross sell appropriate and applicable products and services offered by the Credit Union
  • Other duties may be assigned 
Community and Public Relations Functions:
  • Assists in coordinating the goals and objectives of the Credit Union
  • Promotes Credit Union services and credit union philosophy, and upholds the image of the Credit Union
  • Assists the Vice President of Credit Policy & Loan Administration with the public relations program of the Credit Union

  • Is familiar with the loan adjustment side of the Credit Union to include documents, policies, procedures, systems, credit union philosophy, history, organization and bylaws

  • Is able to work under stressful and pressure filled situations
  • Is able to apply basic mathematical skills

Physical Requirements:
  • Is able to show up to work as scheduled
  • Is able to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull items weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Is able to operate 10-key by touch and type 30-40 wpm accurately
  • Is able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Is able to communicate clearly in person or over the phone and/or in writing
  • Is able to move around the office, primarily on carpeted surfaces
  • Is available for occasional business travel, including land and air travel
Other Requirements:
  • May be required to use personal car to perform Credit Union business
  • May be required to work at different branches
  • May be required to work beyond normal business hours, including weekends
  • May be required to attend seminars or classes to enhance job skills and knowledge
  • Must be bondable and have a clear credit rating
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school graduate / GED equivalent with four (4) years loan adjustment experience or related field with a financial institution; or
  • Business college graduate with three (3) years loan adjustment experience or related field with a financial institution; or
  • College graduate with two (2) years lending experience or related field with a financial institution
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, compliance and laws which relates to the loan adjustment program
  • Knowledge of computer system (IBM or IBM compatible), word processor and spreadsheet programs preferred
  • Knowledge of Credit Union philosophy, history and organization
  • Must demonstrate managerial abilities including communication, organization, planning, and leadership skills
  • Must have ability to supervise employees, handle complaints and grievances following established procedure
  • Must have ability to analyze financial statements, loan applications, and applicant’s ability to meet obligations
  • Must have ability to speak in front of small groups of people
Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily inside an air-conditioned, well-lighted office setting, and high humidity
  • Will work alone and with others.
  • Work environment includes moderate noise level
  • Will have frequent public contact
  • Potential exposure to the threat of violence at any time
